Faith Based and Community Approach to the Social Determinants of Health

Registration and light refreshments will begin at 9 a.m. with the discussion beginning at 9:30 a.m.

Randy Oostra, CEO and President of ProMedica will open the event with a presentation Hunger as a Health Issue, followed by Kim Hettel, director of the Governor’s Office of Faith Based and Community Initiatives who will outline the State of Ohio’s focus.  Jon Gromek, Bread for the World, will present Connecting Faith Based Communities to the Healthcare Community, and a panel, representing local faith based organizations actively addressing the social determinants of health in the community will be moderated by Barbara Petee, Chief Advocacy and Government Relations Officer, ProMedica.

Following the morning discussions, a luncheon will be held for faith based staff who visit patients in hospitals, with ProMedica chaplains presenting expertise and insights in the “Joys and Challenges of Hospital Ministry”.  This discussion will also provide an update on required infection control and safety issues in hospitals today.
